Parliamentarians Call for Apology from PTI’s Iqbal Afridi Over ‘Misogynistic’ Remarks

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Senator Sherry Rehman, and Sindh Government spokesperson Barrister Arsalan Islam Shaikh have all condemned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA Iqbal Afridi’s “misogynistic” comments about a woman’s attire, calling for an apology from him.

During a meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Power, MNA Afridi criticized a woman’s clothing, drawing backlash from other attendees and committee members.

Senator Rehman demanded an apology from Iqbal Afridi, describing his behavior as “reprehensible” and likening it to harassment. “No one has the right to judge a woman’s attire. Don’t create a patriarchal society; who made you the arbiter of clothing?” she said.

The Information Minister also condemned Afridi’s actions, stating that harassment of women is unacceptable and accusing PTI of becoming a “tehreek-e-na-insaf” (unjust movement) for women. He suggested that PTI should suspend Afridi’s party membership, labeling the situation as an example of PTI’s “fascism.”

Sindh Government spokesperson Barrister Arsalan Islam Shaikh added that there was nothing inappropriate about the woman’s clothing and affirmed women’s freedom in society. He advised Iqbal Afridi to be mindful of his comments and reiterated the call for an apology.
