Five Killed in Sukkur Armed Clash Over Land Dispute

Land Dispute

SUKKUR: On Sunday, a violent armed clash between two groups over a land dispute in Sukkur’s Bagarji police station limits resulted in the death of five individuals.

The altercation, which escalated into a deadly exchange of gunfire, was rooted in a long-standing conflict over land.

According to police officials, the dispute had been simmering for some time before it erupted into violence. The confrontation saw a fierce gun battle between the rival groups, leading to significant casualties.

A rescue spokesperson confirmed that four members of one group were killed instantly. Among the deceased, three were from the same family. Another individual, who had been injured in the clash, later died during treatment at a hospital.

The violent encounter in Sukkur is not an isolated incident. The ongoing feud between the groups has a history of deadly confrontations. Previously, a similar clash had resulted in the deaths of three people.

In the most recent incident, a member of the opposing group was also killed during the exchange of fire. The police are actively investigating the feud and working to understand the root causes and dynamics of the ongoing conflict.

In a related incident earlier, five people were killed over a land dispute in Lower Orakzai Tehsil, located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) district.

According to District Police Officer (DPO) Nazeer Khan, the violent clash occurred when rival tribes engaged in an armed confrontation over a disputed piece of land.

On that day, armed members from both tribes took up positions and exchanged fire, resulting in the deaths of five individuals and injuring several others.

The situation in Lower Orakzai Tehsil was brought under control after a heavy police contingent arrived at the scene.

The bodies of the deceased were transported to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

The police are continuing their efforts to manage the aftermath of the conflict and prevent further escalation.

Both incidents underscore the severe consequences of land disputes and the need for effective conflict resolution mechanisms to address and mitigate such violent confrontations.
