Supreme Court to Deliver Verdict on Vote Recount Tomorrow

Supreme Court

A three-member bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, is scheduled to deliver its judgment on the recount of votes in three National Assembly constituencies on Monday.

This decision will address appeals related to the recounting of votes in NA-154 Lodhran, NA-81 Gujranwala, and NA-79 Gujranwala.

The appeals in question emerged from concerns about the integrity of the voting process in these constituencies during the recent general elections.

These concerns were significant enough to prompt legal challenges regarding the accuracy and fairness of the vote counts in the specified areas.

The Supreme Court’s involvement follows an appeal for recounting votes in NA-81 Gujranwala.

The appellant, Azhar Qayyum Nahra, had contested the results of the February 8 elections, where he lost to independent candidate Chaudhry Bilal Ejaz.

Nahra’s appeal, which led to the Supreme Court proceedings, sought a recount to verify the accuracy of the reported results.

The general elections, held on February 8, were marked by controversy and allegations of electoral malpractice. Imran Khan’s party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), expressed concerns that the elections did not provide a “level playing field.”

Despite these concerns, independent candidates supported by PTI won a significant number of seats.

The PTI alleged that the elections were rigged and that the government had tampered with the results, a claim which was vehemently denied by the interim setup.

The Supreme Court’s verdict will be pivotal in addressing these concerns and determining whether a recount is warranted in the affected constituencies.

The outcome will have implications for the credibility of the election results and could potentially impact the political landscape.

As the court prepares to announce its decision, all eyes will be on how it addresses the issues raised and whether it will order a recount to ensure the integrity of the electoral process.
