man died, four others injured in an explosion in Dera Ismail Khan

On Saturday, an explosion in Gilani Town, part of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Dera Ismail Khan division, resulted in the death of a man and injuries to four others, including three children and a woman.

According to Aizaz Mahmood, spokesperson for D.I. Khan’s Rescue 1122 service, the victims were from the same family.

Mahmood confirmed the details in a statement to Dawn.com, noting that while the deceased and the injured have been taken to a hospital, the cause of the explosion remains undetermined.

Rescue 1122’s medical and disaster response teams, under the guidance of Emergency Officer Nomanullah and District Emergency Officer Engineer Faseehullah, responded promptly to the incident. They have been working at the site to clear the debris and ensure the safety of the area.

This incident follows a recent explosion at Islamia University Bahawalpur last month, which injured seven people and caused significant structural damage to the building due to a gas leak.

Additionally, there has been a troubling increase in explosions related to liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders in Sindh over the past few months.

While gas cylinder explosions are common in residential areas, incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Dera Ismail Khan, are sometimes linked to landmines. Both April and May saw landmine blasts in the D.I. Khan division, resulting in casualties and highlighting the persistent dangers posed by unexploded ordnance in the region.
