NACTA
ISLAMABAD: On Monday, the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) announced a significant strategic shift in its approach to combating terrorism in Pakistan.
The decision to launch joint intelligence-based operations (IBOs) was made during NACTA’s monthly counter-terrorism intelligence conference.
The conference brought together key stakeholders from various sectors, including representatives from police forces, law enforcement agencies, and intelligence organizations.
The meeting aimed to evaluate the current security landscape and assess potential threats facing the nation.
One of the primary focuses of the conference was the sharing of actionable intelligence among these stakeholders, with the objective of crafting a unified and effective strategy to address and mitigate terrorist activities.
NACTA’s spokesperson highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts in eradicating terrorism, emphasizing that such joint operations are crucial for ensuring the safety and peace of Pakistan.
The spokesperson expressed a firm commitment to making Pakistan a completely safe and peaceful country through these collective initiatives.
This decision comes in response to a marked increase in terrorist activities across Pakistan, particularly in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) region and Balochistan.
The surge in violence has been attributed to the cessation of a ceasefire agreement between the government and the outlawed militant group Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in November 2022. The deteriorating security situation has been further highlighted by recent data.
An annual security report issued by the Centre for Research and Security Studies revealed alarming statistics for 2023.
Pakistan experienced a record high in violence-related fatalities, with 1,524 deaths and 1,463 injuries resulting from 789 terror attacks and counter-terror operations throughout the year.
This represents the highest level of violence in the country over the past six years, underscoring the urgent need for the intensified counter-terrorism measures announced by NACTA.
By launching these joint IBOs, NACTA aims to enhance coordination among different security agencies, improve the efficiency of intelligence sharing, and strengthen Pakistan’s overall counter-terrorism framework.
