Princess Kate has expressed concerns about an upcoming television series titled Royal Spin, created by Omid Scobie, the author behind the controversial books Finding Freedom and Endgame.
The series, set to be produced by Universal Television, has raised alarm within the Royal Family.
Royal Spin follows the story of Lauren O’Connell, an American PR expert who transitions from a high-pressure job in Washington, D.C., to a communications role at Buckingham Palace. The premise closely parallels the experiences of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, sparking fears that the series may delve into sensitive aspects of their lives.
Sources close to the Royal Family have revealed that Princess Kate is particularly concerned about how the show might depict royal figures. Her unease is heightened by the controversies surrounding Scobie’s previous works, which included claims that Prince Harry was seen as a “threat to the crown” and suggestions of strained relations between Kate and Meghan Markle.
An insider told Closer UK that, although the show is marketed as a fictional drama, Kate worries that it could unveil uncomfortable truths or cast the Royal Family in a negative light.
“The show’s synopsis mirrors Meghan and Harry’s story while presenting itself as fiction,” the source remarked, emphasizing Kate’s concerns about the series’ content.
Prince William has reportedly reassured Kate, expressing confidence that the public will recognize the series as fictional and not mistake it for a true account. However, both William and Kate remain uneasy about the series reaching a wide audience, especially given the contentious nature of Scobie’s past publications.
Scobie’s latest book, Endgame, released in August 2023, claimed that Harry’s independent thinking was perceived as a threat by some within the Royal Institution. The book also alleged that Kate had not been particularly fond of Meghan, with reports suggesting that she discussed Meghan more than she directly interacted with her.
The Royal Family’s concerns are further exacerbated by Universal Television’s involvement in producing the series, fueling new anxieties about potential negative exposure. “They’re caught up in a fresh wave of panic and dread over the possible bombshells and accusations,” a source explained. Despite the tension, Prince William has chosen not to confront his brother, fearing that doing so could exacerbate negative portrayals.
The official blurb for Royal Spin describes the show as a “fresh take that beautifully blends wit and romance,” chronicling Lauren’s journey through the intricate world of the Royal Household.
