Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar to Represent Pakistan at Iranian President’s Swearing-In Ceremony

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has canceled all his engagements for Tuesday due to health concerns, leading to Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar stepping in to represent Pakistan at the swearing-in ceremony of Iran’s new President in Tehran. Dar, who also serves as Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, is scheduled to depart for Tehran today to lead the Pakistani delegation at the high-profile event.

During his visit, Dar will not only attend the inauguration of Iran’s President but is also expected to hold crucial discussions with the Secretary General of the Commonwealth. The meetings will focus on strengthening Pakistan’s diplomatic relations and exploring avenues for enhanced regional cooperation.

The Pakistani government has expressed strong confidence in Ishaq Dar’s ability to manage international affairs effectively during Prime Minister Sharif’s recovery. The delegation’s participation in the swearing-in ceremony underscores the importance of maintaining robust bilateral relations with Iran during this transitional period.

Earlier, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei officially endorsed Masoud Pezeshkian as the country’s new president. Khamenei handed over the signed decree to Pezeshkian, praising the election’s conduct as orderly and calm despite challenging circumstances. The decree affirmed Pezeshkian’s preparedness to assume the presidency and undertake significant responsibilities.

Masoud Pezeshkian, aged 69, is a distinguished cardiac surgeon who secured a decisive victory in the presidential race. He won by defeating his conservative opponent, former security body chief Saeed Jalili, by over three million votes in the second round of the presidential election held on July 5.

This transition in Iranian leadership and the diplomatic engagement by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister highlight ongoing efforts to foster international relationships and navigate political developments in the region.
