LAHORE: Prominent businessman Zulfiqar Ahmad returned home in Lahore on Sunday after being abducted in Karachi four days ago, police confirmed.
“Zulfiqar Ahmed has reached his home in Lahore,” DIG South Asad Raza announced in a statement, bringing relief to his family and associates.
Ahmad was abducted on July 23 from the Maripur Road area of Karachi. According to his family, he was traveling to Clifton with his friend, Qaisar, following a meeting when their vehicle was intercepted by eight individuals in a double-cabin vehicle. The abductors forcibly took both men into their vehicle and drove away.
Qaisar was released shortly after the abduction and immediately informed Zulfiqar’s family about the incident. The swift communication allowed the family to alert the authorities and begin efforts to locate Ahmad.
Earlier on Sunday, Ahmad’s lawyer informed a private news channel that his client had made contact with his family, alleviating some of the anxiety surrounding his disappearance. The lawyer did not provide further details about Ahmad’s release or the circumstances of his abduction.
The police have yet to disclose the motive behind the abduction or whether a ransom was involved. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to identify and apprehend the individuals responsible for the crime.
The abduction and subsequent safe return of Zulfiqar Ahmad highlight the persistent security challenges faced by businessmen and other high-profile individuals in Pakistan.
