Deadly Land Dispute in Kurram: 10 Killed in Violent Clashes

Land Dispute

Clashes over a land dispute in Kurram Agency, a tribal district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, have now entered their third day, resulting in a grim toll of 10 fatalities and 55 injuries.

The violent confrontations have spread across multiple locations, including Bushera, Dander, Balish Khel, Har Kaley, Piwar, and Shapina Shaga Gedo, with both sides reportedly employing heavy weaponry.

Late last night, a dozen missiles were fired at Parachinar town, escalating the already intense situation.

Hospital officials have confirmed the death toll and the number of injured individuals, highlighting the severity of the ongoing conflict.

The situation has prompted police to report intense firing in four different areas within Kurram Agency.

In response to the escalating violence, Deputy Commissioner of Kurram, Javed Mahsud, announced that a grand jirga, or tribal council, consisting of members from Hangu and Orakzai, has arrived to mediate and negotiate a ceasefire.

Efforts are being made to de-escalate the violence and restore peace in the region.

The ongoing clashes have also had significant impacts on local infrastructure and daily life.

The main highway leading to Parachinar remains closed to all traffic, resulting in a buildup of stranded vehicles, particularly vegetable trucks, which are now trapped on the road.

This blockade has further exacerbated the already tense situation by disrupting the flow of essential goods and services.

Authorities are working tirelessly to address the immediate humanitarian needs and to bring the violence under control.

The involvement of the grand jirga is seen as a critical step toward achieving a ceasefire and facilitating dialogue between the warring factions.

The broader aim is to restore stability and ensure the safety of residents affected by the conflict.
