assault on national oil pipeline has been categorized as an act of terrorism

The Punjab Interior Department has introduced a comprehensive policy guideline aimed at enhancing the security of the National Oil Pipeline Network.

This initiative marks a significant step in safeguarding critical national infrastructure, particularly focusing on preventing any attacks that could disrupt the operations of the pipeline.

Under the new directive, any assault on the National Oil Pipeline or other vital national installations is now classified as an act of terrorism. This classification underscores the severity with which such incidents will be treated by law enforcement and security agencies.

The policy mandates that administrations across all districts of Punjab ensure robust security measures specifically tailored for the protection of the National Oil Pipeline. A joint mechanism will be established to coordinate efforts among various security installations throughout the province, enhancing overall efficiency and effectiveness in safeguarding these critical assets.

Law enforcement agencies, including the police, have been entrusted with the responsibility of implementing and maintaining security protocols along the extensive 2000 km network of the National Oil Pipeline. Their role will be pivotal in deterring threats, responding swiftly to incidents, and ensuring continuous surveillance to preempt potential security breaches.

Moreover, the directive will integrate into the Provincial Disaster Response Plan, aligning emergency preparedness and response strategies with the protection of national infrastructure. This integration aims to streamline coordination among relevant authorities during crisis situations, ensuring a prompt and cohesive approach to mitigating risks and managing consequences effectively.

By prioritizing the security of the National Oil Pipeline Network through this policy guideline, the Punjab Interior Department aims to reinforce resilience against threats while upholding the uninterrupted functionality and reliability of critical energy infrastructure essential to the province’s socio-economic stability.
