Imran Khan, the founder of PTI, has completed his physical remand in connection with twelve cases related to the May 9, 2023 incidents. Today, he will appear before the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) via video link. The police are expected to provide an update on their investigation into Khan’s involvement in these incidents and may request an extension of his physical remand to continue their work.
The hearing will be conducted by an Anti-Terrorism Court judge. Khan, who was arrested by police in Adiala Jail, faces allegations related to the violence that occurred on May 9. This marks a key moment in the ongoing legal proceedings stemming from those events.
The Lahore anti-terrorism court previously granted a 10-day physical remand for Khan on July 15. The May 9 unrest followed the detention of Khan by paramilitary Rangers at the Islamabad High Court in a corruption case, sparking nationwide protests. These demonstrations saw widespread rioting and vandalism, including attacks on the Lahore Corps Commander’s residence and the army’s General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.
On July 13, a 13-member team from the Lahore police’s investigation wing visited Adiala Jail to question Khan. However, Khan reportedly refused to cooperate with the police team. The charges against him include inciting public unrest against the state.
