Renowned singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has firmly denied reports of his arrest, calling them “fake and baseless” after a Pakistani news outlet claimed he had been detained at Dubai airport.
“News circulating regarding the arrest of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is fake and baseless,” read a post on the singer’s Facebook page, which boasts more than eight million followers. The post further warned that any media house or channel spreading the fake news would face legal action.
The rumor began when a local news outlet reported that Khan had traveled to the United Arab Emirates for a scheduled performance but was apprehended by authorities upon his arrival at Dubai airport. The report alleged that Khan was held for several hours and taken into custody by Dubai police at the Burj Dubai Police Station.
In response, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan posted a video on social media, recorded against the backdrop of Dubai’s skyscrapers, to assure his fans of his well-being. “I am here in Dubai to record my songs and everything is fine. I will only request you to don’t listen to rumours. There is nothing like the enemy is thinking,” he stated, without naming the “enemy.”
Khan, known for his hit songs expressed hope that he would soon return to Pakistan to continue entertaining his fans with his music. He urged his global fanbase to disregard “cheap news and rumours” and to keep supporting him. “You are my power. My audience and my fans are my power,” he emphasized.
