14 Police Officers Dismissed for Abandoning Muharram Security Duty in Lahore

LAHORE: In a significant move, 14 police officers assigned to security duty on the 9th of Muharram have been dismissed from their positions. This decisive action was taken by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) operations after the officers were found to have abandoned their posts during the critical period of Muharram 09.

The officers were tasked with ensuring security during Muharram, a time marked by heightened vigilance due to its religious significance. Their disappearance from duty not only jeopardized the safety of the processions but also highlighted a serious breach of duty. A formal report has been filed against the 14 officials at Shadman police station, underscoring the gravity of their misconduct and the need for accountability within the police force.

The 9th of Muharram is a day of profound significance, commemorating the supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions. The day is observed with solemnity and respect across Pakistan, with majalis (gatherings) held in cities and towns, and processions of Tazia and Alam taking place in some areas.

In Islamabad, the police have finalized a detailed security and traffic management plan for the 9th of Muharram. The main procession will commence from the Main Imambargah in G/6-2, follow its designated route, and return to its starting point. To ensure the smooth flow of the procession, comprehensive traffic arrangements have been implemented.

The dismissal of the 14 officers serves as a stern reminder of the importance of duty and responsibility, particularly during times of heightened security needs. The police force’s swift action aims to reinforce accountability and maintain the integrity of security operations during such critical periods.
