Islamabad Administration Revokes NOC for PTI Rally Scheduled for July 6

The Islamabad administration has decided to revoke the no-objection certificate (NOC) for the PTI rally scheduled in the federal capital on Saturday, citing concerns over public safety and the timing coinciding with Muharram observances. This decision was made during a meeting chaired by the chief commissioner, where ensuring the safety and security of the public was highlighted as the primary concern.

Initially granted permission on Thursday, PTI had intended to host the rally in Turnol, Islamabad, as communicated through their social media channels. Leaders such as Shoaib Shaheen and Raoof Hasan had actively encouraged supporters nationwide to participate, rallying around themes of “Haqeeqi Azadi” and advocating for the release of Imran Khan.

Despite the administrative setback and potential legal repercussions, PTI officials expressed unwavering determination to proceed with the rally. Raoof Hasan, the PTI central information secretary, affirmed their commitment to holding the event regardless of challenges, including the possibility of arrests.

The cancellation of the NOC comes amidst heightened security concerns, particularly during the sensitive period of Muharram, when large public gatherings require careful management to prevent any potential unrest or disruption. The Islamabad administration’s decision underscores their proactive approach to safeguarding public order and ensuring that religious sensitivities are respected.

While PTI leaders had previously indicated their readiness to defy obstacles and proceed with the rally, the cancellation poses logistical challenges and potentially shifts the focus to alternative strategies for mobilizing support. The developments highlight the complex interplay between political expression, public safety, and administrative oversight in Pakistan’s capital city during critical moments.
