PESHAWAR: In a chilling incident that has shocked the nation, at least nine members of a family were brutally murdered by armed men in Peshawar’s Badaber village on Tuesday.
The gruesome attack took place when armed assailants entered a house in the vicinity of Badaber police station and opened indiscriminate fire, resulting in the deaths of nine individuals, including four women and four children. Several others were injured in the assault.
Initial police reports suggested that the incident stemmed from monetary and property disputes between two families. However, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Kashif Zulfiqar contradicted these claims, stating there appeared to be no monetary dispute between the parties involved. He confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine the true motives behind the attack. “Two teams have been constituted to arrest the culprits,” said SSP Zulfiqar.
The victims have been identified as Naureen w/o Ashfaq, Sidra d/o Amanat Ali, Hamida Begum w/o Malak Aman, Alibaba d/o Muhammad Ashfaq, Akash s/o Muhammad Ashfaq, Tufail Afnan s/o Muhammad Ishaq, and Inkhat s/o Muhammad Ishaq. The injured include Saba w/o Ishaq and Iqra d/o Ishaq, who were receiving medical treatment, with one woman being transferred to Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar, for further assistance.
Police have collected empty cartridge shells and other evidence from the crime scene and have registered a case based on the report from the victim’s heirs. SSP Investigation Sahibzada Sajjad revealed that four teams, led by Superintendent of Police (SP) Saddar Circle, have been dispatched to apprehend the perpetrators. He added that the true motives behind the incident would be disclosed following a thorough investigation.
