Pakistan Implements Mandatory Registration and Licensing for Drone Cameras

ISLAMABAD: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of Pakistan has implemented new regulations effective immediately, mandating the registration of drone cameras operating within the country. This move by the Ministry of Aviation aims to establish stringent controls over the usage of drone technology nationwide.

Under the newly introduced policy guidelines, all owners of drone cameras are required to register their devices with the Civil Aviation Authority within the next four months. Additionally, operators of these drones will need to obtain licenses categorized into four distinct groups based on the weight of their devices. These licenses will remain valid for up to three years, facilitating legal operations across Pakistan.

The policy also addresses the import and export of drone cameras across all categories, subject to obtaining appropriate clearances from the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Aviation. Importantly, flying drones in border areas and restricted zones is strictly prohibited without clearance from the Ministry of Defense.

In case of accidents involving drones, immediate notification to the CAA is mandatory. Strict penalties will be imposed for violations of these regulations to ensure compliance and safety standards. Furthermore, to safeguard air traffic and public safety, the policy explicitly prohibits flying drones within six kilometers of airports.

These measures underscore Pakistan’s commitment to regulating drone technology effectively, balancing innovation with national security concerns. The comprehensive framework aims to streamline operations, mitigate risks, and foster the responsible use of drone cameras across various sectors within the country.

Moreover, the implementation of these regulations reflects Pakistan’s proactive approach to integrating advanced technologies while ensuring safety and security. By formalizing registration and licensing procedures for drone cameras, the government aims to encourage responsible use and prevent unauthorized activities. This initiative is expected to support various sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure monitoring, and disaster management, where drone technology can offer significant benefits.

It also signals Pakistan’s readiness to adapt to technological advancements while upholding regulatory standards that safeguard public interests and national sovereignty. As the drone industry evolves, continued collaboration between stakeholders and ongoing refinement of regulatory frameworks will be essential to harnessing the full potential of this technology for economic and social development.
