ISLAMABAD: During a hearing at the Supreme Court regarding the case brought by the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) concerning reserved seats, an unexpected power outage occurred at the Supreme Court building on Monday.
As the lights went out, Faisal Siddiqui, the lawyer representing SIC, brought attention to the issue of the electricity outage to Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa.
“The power supply has been cut off here as well,” remarked the SIC lawyer. In response, the chief justice inquired, “Why wasn’t electricity provided through the generator?”
Noting that the television and lights were still operational, CJ Isa observed, “I believe only the air conditioners in the courtroom are not working.”
While scorching temperatures persist across various cities, the woes of citizens are compounded by frequent power outages, lasting up to 18 hours a day in some areas.
Frustrated residents in major cities like Karachi and Peshawar have taken to the streets in protest against the prolonged load shedding, expressing their discontent with the lack of electricity.
In response to the situation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed relevant authorities to minimize ongoing load shedding through improved load management, particularly considering public discomfort during the hot weather.
For Karachi, Karachi Electric (KE) has emphasized that ensuring a constant electricity supply depends on citizens paying their bills promptly.
Meanwhile, Energy Minister Awais Leghari has acknowledged that power outages will persist on feeders with financial losses. He stated during a press conference in Islamabad that he has instructed power distribution companies (Discos) to enhance overall performance and reduce the duration of load shedding.
