LAHORE: The Punjab Health Minister has blamed the PTI government for the spread of measles in the province. Provincial Ministers Kh. Imran Nazir and Kh. Salman Rafique addressed the issue in a press conference held in Lahore.
Nazir stated that if the previous government had been attentive, the Muslim League (N) government would not have had to bear this burden. He emphasized that the current administration is making concerted efforts to improve the health sector, with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz placing special emphasis on health and education. However, he added, “We are bearing the damages of the previous government’s tenure.”
The minister specifically criticized the PTI government for its neglect of child vaccination programs in the province. He argued that if the PTI had taken appropriate measures to vaccinate children, the current outbreak could have been prevented. The lack of attention to such a critical public health issue, according to Nazir, has left the Muslim League (N) government to address the resulting crisis.
Nazir further elaborated on the extent of the damage done to the health sector during the previous administration’s rule. He highlighted that the health sector was severely neglected, resulting in numerous challenges that the current government is now striving to overcome. He expressed concern over the state of healthcare in Punjab and underscored the need for a robust healthcare system to prevent such outbreaks in the future.
He reassured the public that the Punjab government is committed to improving healthcare services and is taking all necessary measures to combat the measles outbreak and prevent similar situations from arising in the future. The minister’s statements reflect the administration’s determination to rectify the previous government’s shortcomings and enhance the overall health infrastructure in Punjab.
