FIA Initiates Probe into 1971 Video Posted from Imran Khan’s Account

The Cybercrime Wing of Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has launched an investigation into Imran Khan, the Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), regarding a propaganda video allegedly shared from his official X (formerly Twitter) account. This video, purportedly featuring Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, surfaced on May 26th, leading to the inquiry.

Imran Khan, currently detained at Adiala Jail, is under scrutiny as the presumed owner of the X account used to disseminate the contentious video. The FIA Cybercrime Wing issued a notification detailing the investigation and the individuals slated for questioning.

The notification specifies four individuals associated with PTI who are expected to be interviewed by the FIA Cybercrime Wing. These individuals include Imran Khan himself, along with Barrister Gohar, Omar Ayub, and Raoof Hasan. The investigation aims to determine whether Khan personally uploaded the video or if it was done with his authorization.

In addition to probing the role of the account holder, the FIA Cybercrime Wing seeks to trace the origins of the anti-Pakistan propaganda and hold accountable those responsible for its creation and dissemination.

Should the investigation find evidence implicating the account holder in uploading the video, legal action will be pursued. Conversely, if the account holder denies involvement, they will be required to initiate the closure of their X account due to its unauthorized use.

This inquiry marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation into online activities potentially affecting national security and political integrity. The outcome of the investigation could have far-reaching implications, not only for Imran Khan and PTI but also for the broader landscape of cybercrime regulation and accountability in Pakistan.
