PTI Senior Leader Raoof Hasan Injured in Islamabad Attack

A distressing incident unfolded in Islamabad as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) spokesperson, Raoof Hasan, was assaulted by a group of approximately four individuals, purportedly transgender persons. PTI swiftly condemned the attack, labeling it as “extremely shameful and deplorable.” Despite the condemnation, the motive behind the assault remains unclear.

Video footage accompanying the statement depicts Hasan seeking medical aid with visible injuries and bloodstains on his face as he entered a nearby building. PTI expressed grave concern over the safety of individuals in the capital, questioning the efficacy of security measures.

According to CCTV footage obtained by Geo News, Hasan was accosted by one of the attackers while walking along a roadside. Following a brief exchange, the situation escalated, leading to physical violence. Despite Hasan’s attempts to retreat, the assailants, including the initial provocateur and three others, proceeded to assault him until intervened by a passerby. Notably, the incident was recorded by an onlooker, although the true identity of the attackers remains uncertain.

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar condemned the attack on Geo News’ Capital Talk, urging a thorough investigation into the matter.

The incident triggered a strong response from PTI in the Senate, where Opposition Leader Shibli Faraz condemned the assault, prompting a government promise of legal action. Senator Sherry Rehman requested a detailed report on the incident from the Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar.

Senator Faisal Vawda also condemned the attack during the Senate session, highlighting its severity.

Shibli Faraz emphasized the significance of the incident, urging unity among senators to uphold the Senate’s integrity. Despite initial concerns, reconciliation ensued following acknowledgment of condemnation from the government’s side.

Demanding accountability, Shibli Faraz underscored the necessity for a government response within 24 hours, emphasizing the gravity of the situation.

The Islamabad police, relying on eyewitness accounts, confirmed the use of a blade in the attack. They assured the public of a thorough investigation and pledged to take strict action against the perpetrators.
