Pakistan Mourns: National Day of Mourning Declared for Iranian President Raisi’s Tragic Demise

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif solemnly declared that Pakistan would observe a national “Day of Mourning” following the tragic demise of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash in East Azerbaijan province.

In a gesture of respect and solidarity, he announced that the Pakistani flag would be flown at half-mast to honor President Raisi, his companions, and to stand in unity with Iran during this difficult time.

President Asif Ali Zardari expressed heartfelt tribute to President Raisi’s dedicated service to the Muslim Ummah, emphasizing his unwavering advocacy for Muslim unity and his steadfast support for causes such as the plight of the Palestinian and Kashmiri people. Zardari fondly recalled Raisi’s recent visit to Pakistan, underscoring the special bond he shared with the country and its people.

Zardari lamented Raisi’s passing as an immense loss not only for Iran but also for the entire Muslim Ummah, recognizing his significant efforts to strengthen relations with neighboring and Islamic nations.

Ebrahim Raisi, aged 63, had been elected as Iran’s president in 2021. His visit to Pakistan in April showcased the importance of bilateral ties as both nations sought to mend relations following previous tensions. During his visit, Raisi engaged in extensive discussions with Pakistani leadership, including the prime minister, president, army chief, Senate chairman, and National Assembly speaker. Additionally, he oversaw the signing of eight pivotal agreements between the two countries, spanning diverse sectors such as trade, science, agriculture, health, culture, and judiciary.

Raisi’s sudden demise not only left a void in Iranian politics but also reverberated across the Islamic world. His efforts to foster collaboration and understanding among Muslim nations will be deeply missed and remembered by both Iran and Pakistan, as well as by the broader Muslim community worldwide.

The tragic incident serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing and honoring those who have dedicated themselves to the betterment of humanity.
