Customs officials at Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore recovered 42 kilograms of silver and 11 iPhones from three passengers arriving from Dubai. The passengers, identified as Bushra, Rizwan, and Qasim, were taken into custody after their luggage raised suspicion during routine scanning.
Officials noted that the bags appeared unusual, prompting a detailed inspection that led to the discovery of the smuggled goods. The passengers hail from Gujranwala, Lodhran, and Lahore.
All seized items have been secured by customs authorities, and an investigation has been launched to determine the source and intended destination of the contraband. The operation is part of a broader effort to curb smuggling at major entry points and enforce customs regulations strictly.
In a separate operation in Balochistan, customs officials intercepted another significant smuggling attempt in Pishin district. A total of 50 kilograms of silver was recovered from a vehicle at the Yaro checkpost.
According to Customs Inspector Taufiq Ahmed, the silver was being transported from Chaman, a border city with Afghanistan, to Quetta when it was seized. The estimated value of the recovered silver exceeds Rs25 million.
The vehicle used for transporting the smuggled silver has been confiscated, and authorities have begun legal proceedings against those involved.
The operations in Lahore and Balochistan underscore the vigilance of customs authorities in preventing the illegal movement of precious metals and electronic goods.
Officials emphasized their commitment to strict enforcement of the law and the prevention of smuggling through trade and travel routes. They warned that continued efforts will be made to deter individuals from attempting to smuggle valuable items, reinforcing the message that such illegal activities will face legal consequences.
These actions reflect ongoing initiatives to safeguard the country’s borders, maintain compliance with customs regulations, and protect legitimate trade channels from exploitation.
