LAHORE: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has arrested 42 people, including 11 women, during raids on three allegedly illegal call centres operating in Lahore.
The raids were conducted on Wednesday in Garden Town, Gulberg and OPF Society on the directions of NCCIA Additional Director Atif Amir. The operation targeted suspected networks allegedly involved in defrauding foreign citizens through fraudulent telecommunications offers.
According to officials, the suspects allegedly targeted American citizens by promising mobile phone upgrades and attractive telecom packages. They also reportedly posed as representatives of foreign telecommunications companies to gain the confidence of potential victims and persuade them to engage in financial transactions.
During the operations, investigators seized 67 laptops, 50 mobile phones and two server systems from the premises. The recovered equipment will undergo forensic examination to help investigators determine how the alleged operations were conducted and identify possible evidence of financial fraud.
Authorities are expected to examine digital records, communication systems and other material recovered during the raids to establish the roles of the arrested individuals and determine the extent of the suspected activities.
Additional Director Atif Amir warned that individuals found involved in defrauding foreign citizens would face strict action under the law. He also stressed the importance of continuing operations against illegal call centres and cybercrime networks.
The arrests form part of broader efforts by Pakistani authorities to curb cyber-enabled fraud and protect the country’s international reputation.
Further investigation will determine whether additional individuals or networks were involved in the alleged scams. The suspects’ guilt will be established through the legal process.
