At least 33 Pakistani scholars will pursue fully funded postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom. They will study under Chevening and Commonwealth scholarship programmes.
The British High Commission in Islamabad announced the scholars’ selection on Thursday. The scholars earned selection through academic achievements, leadership potential and public service commitments.
Scholars To Study Key Fields
The scholars will study education, governance, health, climate action, business and civil society. Their programmes will cover global health, human rights, development economics and diplomacy.
Other fields include media and development, innovation, entrepreneurship and biological robotics. Scholars will study at universities across Bristol, Sheffield, Edinburgh, Glasgow and London.
The British High Commission hosted a pre-departure reception for the selected scholars. Officials briefed them about studying and living in the UK.
UK Highlights Scholarship Partnership
British High Commissioner Jane Marriott described the scholarships as a strong example of UK-Pakistan cooperation. She said the programmes invest in talented people who can create positive change.
The latest cohort includes scholars from different regions and professional backgrounds. The high commission also highlighted strong participation by women in recent scholarship groups.
After returning home, the scholars will join a growing alumni network. It includes nearly 2,000 Chevening and more than 1,500 Commonwealth alumni.
These alumni work across education, governance, health, climate, business and civil society. Meanwhile, the UK is working with local partners to expand scholarship opportunities.
Applications for the next Chevening and Commonwealth cohorts have also opened. The programmes aim to support Pakistani leaders, researchers and entrepreneurs through international education.
