The federal government has increased the price of petrol by Rs3.26 per litre while reducing the price of high-speed diesel by Rs1.01.
The revised petroleum prices will take effect from October 2, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Energy’s Petroleum Division on October 1.
Under the latest revision, the price of motor spirit, commonly known as petrol, has increased from Rs387.40 to Rs390.66 per litre.
This represents an increase of Rs3.26 per litre.
Meanwhile, the price of high-speed diesel has been reduced from Rs400.35 to Rs399.34 per litre.
The diesel price has therefore declined by Rs1.01 per litre.
The latest adjustment brings different changes for consumers depending on their fuel requirements. Petrol users will face higher costs, while diesel consumers will receive a small reduction under the new pricing structure.
The Petroleum Division said the revised rates were determined under the petroleum pricing mechanism issued by the federal government.
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) carried out the relevant pricing process before the new rates were announced.
According to the ministry, international market developments contributed to the latest adjustment.
These included changes in Platts rates, premiums and other incidental costs linked to petroleum imports and pricing.
Petroleum prices in Pakistan are reviewed periodically to reflect movements in international oil markets and related costs.
The latest decision comes as fuel prices continue to remain closely watched by consumers, transporters and businesses because changes in petrol and diesel rates can affect transportation and other operating costs.
The new prices will remain applicable from October 2 under the government’s revised petroleum pricing framework.
