LAHORE: The Punjab government has extended the tenure of School Teaching Interns appointed under the first two phases of the programme, allowing eligible teachers to continue working under revised terms until May 31, 2027.
Under the decision, the new internship period will begin on September 16 and continue through the end of May next year.
Officials have directed district education authorities to issue fresh contracts to eligible interns whose previous terms ended on May 31, 2026.
Moreover, the government has approved an additional monthly allowance of Rs15,000 for the interns under the revised terms and conditions.
Existing Interns to Receive Fresh Contracts
The extension applies to School Teaching Interns appointed during Phase One and Phase Two whose contracts were not terminated.
Consequently, eligible teachers will be able to continue their internships without going through a fresh recruitment process.
However, interns who resigned or left their positions before May 31, 2026, will not qualify for the extension.
The government has instructed all district education authorities across Punjab to complete the process of issuing new contracts to eligible interns.
Programme to Continue Until May 31, 2027
The decision provides an additional period of employment for existing STIs while allowing schools to retain teachers already working under the programme.
Furthermore, the additional Rs15,000 monthly allowance will provide increased financial support to interns continuing under the revised arrangement.
District education authorities will now implement the government’s instructions and ensure eligible teachers receive updated contracts.
The extension keeps the School Teaching Intern programme operational through the current academic year, with the revised tenure scheduled to conclude on May 31, 2027.
Officials have also made eligibility dependent on interns maintaining their existing contractual status and complying with the programme’s revised terms and conditions.
