As General Motors prepares to launch a fully redesigned generation of its light-duty full-size pickups for the 2027 model year, a steady stream of spy shots has revealed a host of meaningful updates. Now, eagle-eyed observers have spotted another potential new feature: the fog lamps may soon pull double duty as cornering lights.
Recent photos of a camouflaged 2027 GMC Sierra AT4 prototype, captured during on-road testing, show the passenger-side fog lamp illuminated while the truck appears to be executing a right-hand turn. The driver-side fog lamp remains off in the same imageโan asymmetrical lighting pattern consistent with modern cornering light systems.
Rather than relying on separate, dedicated cornering lamps, many automakers now activate a single fog lamp at low speeds when the vehicle is turning. This throws extra light toward the inside of the corner, improving visibility during nighttime maneuvers without adding extra hardware.
The spy shots align with GM’s broader refresh of the 2027 Chevy Silverado 1500 and 2027 GMC Sierra 1500, which have already been spotted with updated front fascias, revised lighting signatures, and other styling tweaks. While GM has not officially commented on the feature, the illuminated fog lamp in these test vehicles strongly suggests the function will be included in the production models.
Cornering lights are particularly useful for navigating dark, winding roads or residential streets, offering drivers an extra margin of safety when turning at intersections or pulling into driveways. If confirmed, the feature would mark a thoughtful, low-cost enhancement to the trucks’ lighting packages.
