Azzam al-Hayya, the son of senior Hamas leader Khalil al-Haya, reportedly suffered serious injuries during an Israeli air strike in Gaza, according to Saudi news network Al Jazeera. The incident occurred during an Israeli Defense Forces operation targeting militants in the Daraj Tuffah area of Gaza City.
Reports stated that the strike formed part of ongoing Israeli military operations against Hamas-linked targets across the Gaza Strip. Israeli forces have intensified attacks in several areas as fighting between both sides continues.
Meanwhile, Israeli military officials clarified that Azzam al-Hayya was not a direct target of the operation. According to a senior military source quoted by Maariv, Israeli forces targeted militants operating in the area rather than members of Hamas leadership families.
Israeli military denies deliberate targeting
A senior Israeli military official stated that Azzam al-Hayya did not hold strategic importance for Israeli forces. The official added that any injuries sustained during the strike resulted from his presence near individuals targeted during the operation.
Furthermore, the source emphasized that the Israeli military did not carry out the strike because of family connections to Hamas leadership. Officials maintained that the operation focused solely on militants believed to be active in the Daraj Tuffah district at the time.
Reports also indicated that Israeli forces eliminated several individuals during the attack, although authorities have not released complete casualty figures.
Regional tensions continue amid ongoing Gaza operations
The latest strike comes as military operations continue across Gaza amid rising regional tensions and international concern over the humanitarian situation. Israeli forces have expanded operations targeting Hamas infrastructure and armed fighters in multiple districts.
At the same time, regional media outlets continue closely monitoring developments involving senior Hamas figures and their relatives. However, Hamas has not yet issued an official statement regarding the reported injuries suffered by Azzam al-Hayya.
