A series of deadly militant attacks across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan have claimed the lives of 11 individuals, including eight security personnel and three civilians, according to official sources on Wednesday.
In Balochistan’s Mastung district, three members of the security forces, including a senior officer, were martyred while three others sustained injuries when a convoy was targeted with a remote-controlled improvised explosive device (IED). The incident occurred in the Killi Pasand Khan area of Kirdgab. According to officials, the explosive device was planted along the roadside and detonated as the convoy passed by. The injured personnel were taken to the Combined Military Hospital in Quetta for medical treatment.
In another incident in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Karak district, militants ambushed a Federal Frontier Constabulary vehicle in Amankot, within the Gurgari police jurisdiction. Reports indicate that fighters affiliated with a banned militant group took strategic positions on surrounding hills and opened fire on a pick-up truck transporting FC personnel. The attack resulted in the deaths of a Lance Naik, two sepoys, and a civilian driver. These personnel were assigned to secure an oil and gas facility in the region. Emergency teams responded quickly, transferring the deceased to a hospital in Terri.
Meanwhile, an off-duty Frontier Corps soldier was fatally shot in Lakki Marwat’s Railway Station locality. The victim, a resident of Zangikhel, had returned home on leave. After the shooting, police launched a search operation in the area to trace the attackers. The soldier was later buried with state honours.
In Peshawar, a senior police officer and two civilians were killed in a targeted shooting by unidentified gunmen on motorcycles. The attack took place in the Michni Gate area, where the officer, who was leading an investigation cell, was travelling with friends when their vehicle came under fire. Authorities recovered over 60 bullet casings from the scene. The attackers reportedly fled toward the outskirts of the city after the incident.
In Upper South Waziristan’s Ladha tehsil, a convoy carrying Deputy Commissioner Asmatullah Wazir and Additional Deputy Commissioner Zahid Younis came under fire in the Habib Kot area. Although the officials remained unharmed, two police officers sustained minor injuries due to broken glass. Security forces have collected forensic evidence and begun an investigation.
Separately, a Pakistan Navy commando was injured in an attack near Bachkan Ahmadzai, Lakki Marwat. The 22-year-old, who was on leave from his post in Karachi, was heading to his village when two masked motorcyclists attempted to assault him. During the altercation, one of the attackers opened fire, injuring him. The victim later told police that he had tried to resist the assailants before being shot. Law enforcement has filed a case and is actively searching for the suspects.
These coordinated attacks underscore the persistent threat of terrorism in the region, despite ongoing counterterrorism efforts. Security forces continue to investigate the incidents and conduct search operations in the affected areas.
