At least 11 people were killed in a tragic bus crash near Tando Masti in Khairpur District early Sunday, raising serious road safety concerns. The victims included nine passengers, the driver, and the conductor. The passenger coach was traveling from Punjab to Karachi when it collided with a trailer carrying heavy concrete girders. The accident occurred on the National Highway and caused severe destruction to the bus.
Rescue teams reached the scene shortly after the collision and immediately began relief operations. Authorities shifted the bodies to Civil Hospital Khairpur for legal procedures. Meanwhile, at least ten injured passengers received medical treatment. Emergency workers transported the wounded to nearby hospitals without delay. Furthermore, officials cleared surrounding roads to ensure smooth ambulance movement. As a result, rescue efforts continued without major obstruction.
The Inspector General of Sindh Police directed the Senior Superintendent of Police in Khairpur to personally supervise operations. He also instructed authorities to maintain order at the accident site. In addition, police secured the area to prevent further traffic congestion. Investigators have started examining the cause of the collision. However, officials have not yet released a detailed technical assessment. Therefore, authorities are expected to review compliance with traffic laws and vehicle safety standards.
In a separate incident on Friday, another deadly crash occurred near Kathore on the M9 Motorway. At least 14 people lost their lives in the multi-vehicle collision. The accident involved an oil tanker, a bus, and several other vehicles. Rescue officials confirmed that women and children were among the deceased. Moreover, the force of the crash caused several passengers to fall from a bridge.
Police stated that one coach was traveling on the wrong side of the road at the time. Consequently, authorities registered a First Information Report at Gadap police station. The case includes charges of culpable homicide and reckless driving. According to initial findings, the oil tanker lost control around 3:40 pm. It first collided with a trailer and another vehicle. After the initial impact, a bus and another vehicle overturned. The oil tanker driver died at the scene, while several other drivers and passengers also lost their lives.
These back-to-back tragedies have intensified concerns about highway safety across Sindh. Frequent accidents highlight the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations. Authorities must also strengthen monitoring of heavy vehicles on major routes. Although investigations continue, grieving families now face unimaginable loss. Meanwhile, officials remain focused on relief measures and accountability.
