Why ‘10 Things I Hate About You’ Still Matters
Released in 1999, 10 Things I Hate About You became a popular teen romantic comedy inspired by William Shakespeare’s play The Taming of the Shrew.
The story follows Kat, an independent and outspoken teenager, and Patrick, the mysterious student who gradually wins her affection.
The film gained a loyal following through its humour, memorable dialogue and chemistry between its leading actors. Ledger’s performance also helped turn Patrick Verona into one of the most recognisable romantic leads of the era.
Heath Ledger’s Legacy Lives On
Ledger later earned international acclaim for his diverse performances, particularly his portrayal of the Joker in The Dark Knight. He received a posthumous Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for that role.
His work continues to attract new audiences, while 10 Things I Hate About You remains an important part of his early career.
The reunion serves as a reminder of the lasting connections formed through filmmaking and the enduring affection audiences hold for Ledger and his work.
