ISLAMABAD: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has firmly stated that Ukraine will not accept any peace agreements proposed by the US and Russia without its participation. This statement follows recent talks between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, who discussed potential steps to end the ongoing war.
“We cannot accept it, as an independent country,” Zelensky asserted, emphasizing Ukraine’s need for a seat at the negotiating table. Following his conversation with Putin, Trump suggested a “good possibility” for resolving the conflict and mentioned a potential meeting between Russian and US representatives in Munich.
However, Zelensky’s adviser, Dmytro Lytvyn, stated that no major talks with Russia were expected at the Munich Security Conference.
In a call with Trump, Zelensky reiterated that any agreements made without Ukraine’s involvement would be “unacceptable,” stressing that European nations must also be part of the discussions. He emphasized that securing “top priority” security guarantees for Ukraine would require US support.
Zelensky also cautioned world leaders not to trust Putin’s claims of willingness to end the war, with his remarks backed by European leaders, including UK Defence Secretary John Healey and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who insisted that any negotiations must include Ukraine.
