Users Encounter Errors Across App and Website
Elon Musk-owned social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, experienced a major global outage on Friday, leaving thousands of users unable to access the service. Users across several countries, including the United States and Pakistan, reported problems while trying to log in or refresh their feeds.
Many users said they were greeted with repeated error messages stating, โSomething went wrong. Try reloading.โ However, clicking the reload option failed to resolve the issue. Instead, users encountered an endless loading screen, which prevented access to posts, profiles, and notifications.
The disruption affected both mobile and desktop users. According to Downdetector, a platform that tracks online service outages, complaints surged rapidly within minutes. As of 8:15pm, more than 74,000 outage reports had been logged globally, highlighting the scale of the issue.
Downdetector Data Shows Widespread Impact
Downdetector data revealed that the majority of complaints, see around 56%, came from users of the X mobile application. Another 33% of users reported issues with the website version of the platform. Around 10% of complaints pointed to server connection failures.
In Pakistan, reports of the outage began around 7:47pm. The number of affected users continued to rise steadily. By 8:36pm, at least 344 reports had been recorded from different cities, indicating that the outage was not limited to one region.
Users took to other social media platforms to express frustration. Many complained about repeated outages and questioned the platformโs stability. Some users also reported slow loading times before complete service disruption.
Repeated Outages Raise Reliability Concerns
This was not the first time X experienced a large-scale disruption in recent days. Just three days earlier, the platform suffered another widespread outage. That incident peaked at more than 28,300 reports in the United States alone before gradually declining.
The repeated technical issues have raised concerns about the platformโs reliability. These concerns come at a time when X is undergoing major internal changes under Elon Muskโs leadership.
The outage also followed Muskโs recent announcement about plans to open-source Xโs recommendation algorithm. The move was presented as an effort to increase transparency and rebuild trust among users. However, critics argue that frequent technical failures undermine those goals.
So far, X has not issued an official statement explaining the cause of the outage. There was also no confirmation on how long the disruption would last. In past incidents, services were restored gradually without detailed explanations.
As X continues to evolve, users and analysts alike are watching closely. They are hoping for improved stability, especially as the platform positions itself as a central hub for real-time news, public debate, and digital communication.
