Fans of the cult comedy series Hera Pheri are eagerly awaiting its third instalment, especially with the iconic trio—Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, and Suniel Shetty—reuniting.
The project had faced uncertainty earlier this year when Rawal announced his abrupt departure, a move that left both fans and franchise lead Kumar shocked. However, with Rawal now confirming his return, the film is back on track, with production expected to kick off in February or March next year.
Director Priyadarshan recently shared his thoughts on the much-anticipated sequel in an interview with Pinkvilla. He stressed that he would only commit to directing Hera Pheri 3 if the script truly lives up to the original’s legacy.
According to him, the film must “do justice to the first instalment,” adding that while the first film was “born,” the third should not allow that legacy to “die.” Priyadarshan insisted that unless a script matches his conviction, he would not risk his hard-earned reputation by attempting the sequel.
The earlier controversy surrounding Paresh Rawal’s exit had caused considerable tension. Akshay Kumar, who is also producing the film under Cape of Good Films, even considered legal action to resolve the matter.
Fans, long hoping for a reunion of Baburao, Raju, and Shyam, were relieved when Rawal eventually confirmed his participation.
The Hera Pheri series holds a special place in Indian cinema. The 2000 classic, directed by Priyadarshan, starred Rawal, Kumar, and Suniel Shetty as the lovable yet bumbling trio. The sequel, Phir Hera Pheri (2006), directed by Neeraj Vora, further cemented the franchise’s comedic appeal.
With Priyadarshan’s careful approach and the original cast back together, expectations are higher than ever for Hera Pheri 3 to uphold its legacy of humour and charm.
