Despite Imran Khan’s instructions, Ali Amin Gandapur officially remains the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. His resignation awaits the provincial governor’s approval.
Gandapur’s resignation letter, shared with media earlier, appears trapped in bureaucratic delays. Governor House officials denied receiving any such document.
Officials at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat said they had delivered the resignation to Governor House on Wednesday night.
Governor’s Office Denies Receipt of Resignation
KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, who was in Islamabad on Thursday, stayed silent about the resignation.
An official from his staff told Dawn that the letter had not reached the Governor’s Office. He added that the governor would sign it immediately upon receipt.
The official confirmed that Governor Kundi was expected to return to Peshawar on Friday.
Speaking to reporters in Islamabad, Kundi reiterated that he had not yet received the resignation. He dismissed reports about its delivery to Governor House as “fake news.”
Gandapur Calls Delay a Political Drama
After announcing his resignation, Gandapur told reporters that the federal government could not overthrow the PTI-led KP government.
He called the delay in his resignation’s acceptance a “drama” and urged the government not to waste time.
Gandapur warned that unnecessary delays could harm the province’s governance and stability.
When asked about being re-offered the chief ministership, he denied it and said he would refuse even if offered again.
Information Minister Accuses PTI of Supporting Terrorists
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar accused PTI of “enabling terrorists” during a press conference in Islamabad.
He claimed Gandapur lost his position because he refused to follow directives that supported extremist elements.
Tarar alleged that CM-in-waiting Sohail Afridi was nominated to “promote and support” terrorism in the province.
He further accused Imran Khan of being the “chief sponsor of terrorism” from behind bars.
