WhatsApp is set to make its voice recording feature more streamlined and user-friendly in an upcoming update, allowing users to record voice messages with a single tap.
This new update, currently available to beta testers who have downloaded WhatsAppโs latest beta version (iOS 25.13.10.70) through the TestFlight app, significantly simplifies the voice recording process, making it faster and easier to use.
At present, WhatsApp offers two methods for sending voice messages. The first method involves pressing and holding the microphone button within a chat. Once the user releases the button, the voice message is automatically sent, provided it has been recorded for at least a second.
The second method is intended for longer voice messages. To use it, users press the microphone button and then slide their finger upward to activate a “locked” mode. This feature allows users to continue recording without needing to hold down the button.
However, with the latest update, WhatsApp has unified these two recording methods into a single, more seamless experience. Now, users can start recording a voice message with just a single tap of the microphone button.
The key change is that the “lock” feature is automatically activated as soon as the user taps the microphone, eliminating the need to hold the button or swipe up to trigger the locked mode.
This means that users can record their messages without needing to make additional gestures, making the process feel much more fluid and intuitive.
This update is designed to simplify the experience of sending voice messages, reducing friction and making communication smoother for users. It is expected that this change will save time and improve daily communication by eliminating unnecessary steps in the recording process.
Although this new method may feel unfamiliar to users who are accustomed to the previous two-step approach, it is expected that after a few uses, most users will find the new process efficient and easy to use.
Currently, the feature is available to a select group of beta testers who have installed the latest version of WhatsApp beta for iOS through TestFlight. The update is gradually being rolled out and will reach more users in the coming weeks.
