WhatsApp is introducing a new feature called ‘Quick Recap’, to help users catch up on unread messages across multiple chats without scrolling through lengthy threads.
Quick Recap differs from existing message previews by offering more in-depth summaries across up to five selected conversations simultaneously. The feature will process.
Here’s how it will work: users will be able to open the Chats tab, select up to five conversations, and tap on a new Quick Recap icon. Once triggered, Private Processing will securely prepare the unread messages so that Meta AI can generate concise recaps — all without compromising message confidentiality.
Key aspects of the feature include:
- Limited to five chats per recap session, requiring additional runs for more summaries.
- Exclusion of Advanced Chat Privacy-protected conversations, respecting users’ explicit choice to keep AI out of certain chats.
- Manual activation only — the tool will not be enabled by default, ensuring users opt in based on their preferences.
The company emphasizes that the underlying architecture ensures no readable message content ever leaves the device. By balancing smart AI integration with robust privacy safeguards, WhatsApp aims to offer greater convenience without sacrificing user trust.
The Quick Recap feature is currently under development and will be available in a future update.
