Exclusive Sharing for Trusted Contacts
WhatsApp is developing a new feature allowing users to share exclusive status updates with a select circle of friends.
Currently in beta for iOS, the “Close Friends’ Status Updates” option is expected to be officially announced soon.
Creating a Private List
Users can create a private list of chosen contacts within WhatsApp’s privacy settings.
Once added, these contacts alone will be able to view status updates shared under this feature.
The updates will remain visible for 24 hours, consistent with WhatsApp’s current status lifecycle.
Similar to Instagram Stories
These close friends’ statuses will appear visually distinct, possibly marked with unique colours or indicators.
The approach mirrors Instagram’s “Close Friends” stories, giving users tighter control and enhanced privacy for shared content.
Current and Upcoming Options
At present, WhatsApp allows users to either share updates with all contacts or exclude certain ones.
The new feature simplifies this process, offering an intimate, streamlined sharing experience.
Although no release date is confirmed, it was detected in beta version 25.23.10.80 for iOS.
Voicemail-Style Shortcut in Development
Separately, WhatsApp is also testing a voicemail-style shortcut for missed calls.
This option enables users to instantly record and send a voice message when a call goes unanswered.
Currently available to select Android beta users (version 2.25.23.21), it promises smoother and faster follow-up communication.
Strategy of User-Centric Innovation
Both features highlight WhatsApp’s broader strategy to stay ahead by rolling out user-friendly updates.
By continuously introducing tools that simplify communication, WhatsApp aims to keep its platform relevant and convenient.
