WhatsApp is reportedly developing a new feature that will allow users to save status updates as drafts, making it easier to resume unfinished updates.
According to recent reports, the Meta-owned messaging platform is working on a “Save as draft” option for status creation, which will be especially useful when users are interrupted while editing their statuses.
The feature has been spotted in the WhatsApp version v2.25.36.6, where the code for this functionality has been included. When a user tries to exit the status-creation screen with an unfinished update, a pop-up menu will appear offering three options: Save as draft, Discard, or Continue editing. If the user selects “Save as draft,” the unfinished status will be saved and automatically reloaded the next time the status editor is opened, allowing users to continue editing without losing their work.
This feature is expected to streamline the status creation process, particularly for users who often multitask or face interruptions while crafting updates. It addresses a long-requested convenience, as previously, users would have to start over if they exited the editor mid-way.
In addition to the draft-saving feature, WhatsApp is also preparing a special animated “2026” sticker for Layout statuses. These animated stickers appear when adding multiple images in a grid format, and they come in customizable colors, including purple, red, and green. The sticker is designed to add a creative touch to status posts, especially around the New Year or celebratory moments.
Both the draft feature and the 2026 animated sticker are currently under development and have not yet been rolled out to the public. Users will have to wait for future updates to experience these enhancements.
Once implemented, these features are expected to improve the user experience by making status editing more flexible and visually engaging, while giving users additional creative options for personalizing their updates. WhatsApp continues to evolve its features to keep the platform interactive and user-friendly.
