ISLAMABAD:The federal government will soon initiate weekly tree plantation drives across the Islamabad region as per Federal Minister for Climate Change Dr Musadik Masood Malik.
The minister stated that the tree plantation drive will continue for at least one to two months. It will cover different areas in the capital city.
The federal minister stated that the government is serious about fulfilling the promise of planting ten trees for every single tree cut in Islamabad. He urged the media and the public to visit the sites. He asked them to see the progress themselves.
“Trees are very essential for our environment because they consume carbon dioxide. They produce oxygen. They prevent floods. They control soil erosion. They combat climate change,” the minister stated.
The minister pointed out that the saplings planted in the previous drives were in good health. This was a sign that the government was serious about their protection. He also emphasized the need for participation, especially by the younger members of society and the kids in schools. This was to inculcate the habit in the minds of the public.
Malik also appreciated the role played by the media in promoting the importance of tree plantation. He asked them to further highlight the importance of forest and fuel conservation. He further stated that by conserving fuel, they could also reduce the emission of carbon into the atmosphere.
On the other hand, in Azad Kashmir, Prime Minister Raja Faisal Mumtaz Rathore inaugurated the Spring Tree Plantation campaign. He did this by planting a sapling at the Prime Ministerโs House. He termed tree plantation a โreligious obligationโ for all. He urged every citizen to take it as a national responsibility. He said it is one of the best ways to combat climate change.
