Shane Watson, former Australian all-rounder, has expressed disappointment over India’s decision not to travel to Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy, calling it “unfortunate” and stressing the importance of India-Pakistan encounters for global cricket fans.
Speaking at the ICC Champions Trophy Sydney tour, Watson highlighted the unique atmosphere created by India-Pakistan matches, comparing it to the historic rivalry between Australia and England. “These encounters are always a special occasion,” Watson said, underscoring their significance in international cricket.
Drawing from his own experience playing in Pakistan during the 2019 Pakistan Super League, Watson shared his appreciation for the passion of Pakistani cricket fans. “Having the opportunity to play in Pakistan was special. The enthusiasm and enjoyment of the game by the Pakistani fans was remarkable,” he reflected.
Watson also emphasized the importance of Pakistan hosting an ICC event, especially given the limited opportunities for local fans to witness top-tier international cricket firsthand. “The Champions Trophy in Pakistan is a momentous occasion for the country. Fans will finally have the chance to see world-class players in action, and that will be a memorable experience,” he stated.
The tournament will mark Pakistan’s first major ICC event in years, a significant milestone for cricket in the region.
