ISLAMABAD: Following a sudden and intense hailstorm that battered Islamabad, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a fresh warning about the possibility of more severe hailstorms in the coming days.
The unexpected storm, which occurred amid an ongoing heatwave, caused widespread damage across the capital. Hundreds of vehicles were left with shattered windows, and several buildings sustained damage โ including a section of the iconic Faisal Mosque. Eyewitnesses described a thick layer of hail blanketing roads and parks, contributing to significant property loss.
The stormโs severity shocked residents, as outdoor vehicles across the city bore the brunt of the damage. Experts from PMD linked the extreme event to changing climate patterns, noting a rise in the frequency and intensity of such weather phenomena. โThese events reflect shifting climate dynamics influenced by global warming,โ a PMD official said.
Some citizens have interpreted the event as divine retribution, reflecting growing public anxiety over unpredictable weather. The PMD, however, clarified that such storms typically occur during abrupt weather transitions โ especially when intense heat gives way to rain.
In addition to the hailstorm alert, PMD has also warned of an impending heatwave that could bring soaring temperatures back to the region. Citizens are advised to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their property.
