Renowned Indian comedian and character actor Fish Venkat, born Mangalam Pali Venkatesh, has passed away at the age of 53, marking the end of a two-decade-long journey in the Telugu film industry. He died in a hospital in Hyderabad after suffering from chronic kidney disease, which had reached a critical stage in recent weeks.
According to hospital sources, both of Venkatesh’s kidneys had failed completely, and he had been placed on a ventilator for several days as doctors tried to stabilize his condition. Despite all medical efforts, he succumbed to the illness yesterday, leaving behind a grieving family, a devoted fanbase, and colleagues from across the Indian film fraternity.
Fish Venkat began his acting career in 2000, gradually earning a name for himself in the Telugu film industry (Tollywood) through a series of memorable supporting roles.
Though he often portrayed comic and villainous characters, his versatility and timing made him a familiar and beloved presence on screen. He featured in numerous successful productions over the years, contributing to both commercial blockbusters and smaller cult classics.
He became a fan favorite for his quirky expressions, punchy dialogue delivery, and a unique screen presence that added humor and unpredictability to even the most intense scenes.

In the days leading up to his death, his name was unexpectedly caught up in a social media hoax, wherein a fake phone call claimed that superstar Prabhas had offered ₹5 million to support Venkat’s kidney transplant.
The claim, which quickly went viral, turned out to be false, adding unnecessary distress to the actor’s already struggling family and sparking outrage among fans over the insensitivity of such misinformation.
