Venezuela has urged OPEC and member states to unite against what it calls escalating US aggression. The appeal came through a detailed letter from President Nicolas Maduro, shared by Foreign Minister Yvan Gil on Telegram. Maduro said Venezuela will remain firm in defending its natural energy resources. He denounced what he described as a US threat to seize Venezuelan oil reserves through military force. Caracas issued the letter soon after President Donald Trump warned that Venezuelan airspace would be completely shut down. Venezuelan authorities responded by demanding unconditional respect from Washington.
Maduro Warns of Serious Violations
Maduro said the United States intends to take Venezuelaโs oil by using lethal military force. He argued that such actions violate international norms on peaceful coexistence among nations.
Moreover, he warned that the threat endangers Venezuelan oil production and global market stability. He said the world already understands the damage caused by previous US military interventions in other oil-producing states. Maduro stressed that Venezuela will not succumb to any form of blackmail or external threats. He urged OPEC members to work collectively to stop the aggression. He warned that the situation seriously threatens the balance of the international energy market. Both producers and consumers may suffer if tensions escalate.
Regional Tensions Continue Rising
The letter arrived during months of expanding US military activity across Latin America. The United States has deployed Marines, naval vessels, fighter jets, bombers, submarines, and drones across the region. These deployments have fueled speculation about a possible US attack on Venezuela.
Trump announced that the United States will soon take action against Venezuela on land. He said US forces have conducted 21 military operations at sea since September. Those operations reportedly killed at least 83 people. Venezuelan officials claim these actions form part of a broader strategy to destabilize the country. Caracas insists it will defend its sovereignty at any cost.
