The United States has made it clear that all options remain on the table regarding Iran. President Donald Trump’s administration signaled strong support for Iranian protesters while urging restraint from Tehran. Tensions escalated during a UN Security Council meeting requested by the United States on Thursday.
US Affirms Support for Iranian Protesters
US Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz expressed solidarity with the “brave people of Iran.” He emphasized that President Trump will take action if the ongoing violence against protesters continues. Thousands of people have reportedly been killed in recent nationwide protests challenging the clerical establishment.
At the same time, Trump adopted a cautious stance, noting reports that the killings may be easing. He added that no large-scale executions are currently planned. Waltz reiterated that Washington seeks to protect civilians while avoiding immediate military intervention.
Iran Denounces Allegations and Warns Against Aggression
Iran’s Deputy UN Ambassador Gholamhossein Darzi rejected US claims as misleading. He accused Washington of spreading “lies, distortions, and deliberate misinformation” regarding Iran’s internal affairs. Darzi warned that any act of aggression, direct or indirect, will receive a decisive and lawful response.
Meanwhile, Russia’s UN Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia criticized the US for convening the Security Council. He argued that Washington’s actions aim to justify interference in Iran’s domestic matters. Nebenzia cautioned against attempts to resolve Iran’s issues through strikes or regime change.
United Nations Urges Maximum Restraint
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on all parties to exercise restraint. Senior UN official Martha Pobee emphasized avoiding actions that could escalate violence or risk civilian lives. The UN stressed the importance of preventing further instability in the region.
Denmark’s UN Ambassador Christina Markus Lassen highlighted that Iranians are demanding a better life. She urged Tehran to respect citizens’ rights and respond through peaceful, non-violent means. Lassen emphasized that the government must begin listening to the people immediately.
Global Tensions and Diplomatic Pressure
The Security Council debate reflects rising international concern over Iran’s internal crisis. US support for protesters increases diplomatic pressure on Tehran to address grievances. At the same time, Iran warns that foreign interference will provoke a proportionate response.
Analysts note that the situation could affect regional stability if escalation occurs. Global leaders continue advocating dialogue and peaceful resolution to prevent further violence. The world closely monitors how Tehran will respond to both internal protests and international warnings.
