ISLAMABAD: The U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan, Donald Blome, emphasized the enduring partnership between Pakistan and the United States, highlighting the mutual desire for both nations to thrive.
Ambassador Blome addressed various aspects of the bilateral relationship, including economic cooperation, security, and investment opportunities. He acknowledged the current economic crisis in Pakistan, stressing the need for significant reforms to address the challenges, noting that Pakistan will require approximately $3 billion to overcome these difficulties.
Despite the economic hurdles, Blome identified Pakistan as a significant investment opportunity, pointing out that the country’s exports to the United States are higher than to any other country. In 2023, bilateral trade exceeded $9 billion, with Pakistan exporting more than $6 billion worth of goods to the U.S.
The Ambassador praised Pakistan’s efforts in combating terrorism, describing them as commendable, and assured that there are no major security concerns in Pakistan at the moment, highlighting the country’s achievements in maintaining stability.
Blome reaffirmed America’s commitment to helping Pakistan at every level, acknowledging the sacrifices made by Pakistan in the fight against terrorism. He emphasized the importance of upholding basic human rights as enshrined in Pakistan’s constitution and advocated for respect for freedom of expression, considering it crucial for Pakistan’s development and democratic progress.
Reflecting on the long history of partnership between Pakistan and the U.S., Ambassador Blome reiterated the significance of this relationship. He highlighted the importance of continuous collaboration and support, stating that America’s relationship with Pakistan remains a priority.
In his speech, Ambassador Blome underscored the multifaceted and enduring relationship between Pakistan and the United States, focusing on economic cooperation, security, investment opportunities, and the importance of human rights and freedom of expression.
“The U.S. is assisting in various development projects in Pakistan, and the U.S. is trying to develop various sectors in Pakistan,” said Blome. He mentioned that America is helping 34 universities in Pakistan, with U.S. investment in Pakistan reflecting their historical ties.
Donald Blome emphasized that America values its historical ties with Pakistan and stands firmly with the country. “Pakistan is facing various challenges, including terrorism, but both countries will continue to cooperate in the future,” he said.
Blome stressed that Pakistan and America are on the same page in their desire to end terrorism. “I would try to keep both countries on the same page at all times,” he concluded.
