Tensions in the Middle East are approaching a dangerous tipping point, with the United States and Israel reportedly preparing for large-scale military strikes targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.
According to The New York Times, the U.S. is planning to use its most powerful conventional weapon — the 30,000-pound GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator — in a potential strike on Iran’s heavily fortified Fordow nuclear facility. The underground site is considered one of the most secure elements of Iran’s nuclear program.
Simultaneously, Israeli military planners have identified at least 10 critical nuclear-linked targets in Tehran. These include strategic installations, government command centers, and key military infrastructure. Israeli defense officials say the operation would rely on achieving rapid air dominance to carry out high-precision attacks.
U.S. President Donald Trump has reportedly placed the White House Situation Room on continuous alert, instructing the National Security Council to remain on standby — a move widely interpreted as preparation for imminent military action.
Sources indicate the U.S. strike would likely be conducted using B-2 stealth bombers, the only aircraft capable of delivering the GBU-57 to deeply buried targets like Fordow.
Israel has also hinted at the possibility of preemptive strikes, including the potential targeting of Iran’s newly appointed military leadership. According to Israeli defense sources, plans are being considered to strike command centers in Tehran and to issue evacuation warnings to civilians in advance of any action.
China has sharply criticized Washington’s posture, accusing President Trump of inflaming regional tensions and warning of the risk of a broader conflict that could destabilize the Middle East.
Trump has further escalated concerns by publicly advising Iranian civilians to leave Tehran, fueling speculation that military action could be imminent.
Military analysts caution that coordinated strikes of this scale could spark a regional conflict with far-reaching consequences, potentially drawing in other powers and destabilizing an already volatile region.
