New York — Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations, Amir-Saeid Iravani, has rejected a Security Council resolution concerning the ongoing conflict with the United States and Israel, calling the document unjust and unlawful.
Speaking during a Security Council meeting on Wednesday, Iravani said Iran does not recognize the resolution adopted against the Islamic Republic. He argued that the decision undermines the credibility of the Security Council and damages the reputation of the United Nations.
Furthermore, the envoy accused certain council members of misusing the body’s mandate to advance political agendas. According to him, the resolution distorts realities on the ground and deliberately ignores the underlying causes of the crisis.
Tehran accuses council members of bias
Iravani strongly criticized the resolution, describing it as biased and politically motivated. He claimed the document reverses the roles of aggressor and victim while effectively rewarding the United States and Israel.
Additionally, the Iranian envoy criticized European members of the council that supported the resolution. He argued that their vote contradicts their stated commitment to the United Nations Charter and international law.
According to Iravani, those countries prioritized political considerations over legal principles. He further alleged that several states simply followed directives from Washington rather than exercising independent judgment.
Iran defends military response
Meanwhile, the Iranian envoy reiterated Tehran’s position that it has acted in self-defense under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter. He said Iran responded after what he described as illegal and unprovoked attacks by the United States and Israel that began on February 28.
Iravani also accused the two countries of targeting civilian infrastructure, including schools, hospitals, residential areas, and public facilities across Iran.
Finally, he urged the Security Council to compel Washington and Tel Aviv to halt military operations immediately and accept responsibility for alleged violations of international humanitarian law.
