TEHRAN: In a significant development, U.S. officials have reported an attack on one of their warships in the Gulf of Aden near the Yemeni coast, resulting in a British oil tanker being set ablaze. The incident has two conflicting accounts.
According to the U.S. military’s Central Command, an anti-ship ballistic missile fired from Yemen approached the USS Carney but was successfully intercepted. In contrast, Ansarullah claimed a “direct hit” on a U.S. warship, forcing two American commercial vessels to retreat.
Both American and Yemeni sources agree that a U.S. warship was targeted, differing only on whether it was “directly hit” or the missile was “shot down.”
Some American sources support the Yemeni account, suggesting a potential U.S. denial to avoid boosting Ansarullah’s popularity in the region.
Ansarullah’s statement indicates a two-hour engagement with U.S. destroyers in the Gulf of Aden, resulting in the withdrawal of two American vessels allegedly heading to Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories.
Additionally, Ansarullah claims U.S. warships attempted unsuccessfully to escort the American vessels to Israeli ports.
Despite joint American-British attacks and increased militarization, Ansarullah continues to target Israeli and affiliated vessels. U.S. warships are now facing retaliation from Ansarullah’s naval forces.
Ansarullah’s maritime operations, initiated in response to the U.S. bombing of Yemen, aim to end the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza. The Yemeni government asserts it will cease naval operations once humanitarian aid reaches Gaza, and Israel ends its alleged genocidal war.
Following the attack on the U.S. warship, Ansarullah targeted a British oil tanker in the Gulf of Aden, causing a fire that was extinguished after nearly 24 hours.
The operation, in support of the oppressed Palestinian people, aimed to enforce a blockade on Israeli navigation until a Gaza ceasefire and humanitarian access are secured.
Despite recent American-British airstrikes, Ansarullah remains steadfast in its stance, emphasizing that halting Israeli aggression is crucial for ending its operations.
In contrast to the Israeli war on Gaza, Ansarullah’s actions have not resulted in casualties, underscoring the group’s distinct approach to the conflict.
