LAHORE: The students of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) in Lahore developed a unique indigenous anti-smog gun to combat air pollution. Punjab’s Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb inaugurated the anti-smog gun tidat at University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore.
The innovative device, designed by UET engineering graduates, was hailed as a technological breakthrough in the province’s efforts to combat environmental pollution.
Minister Praises UET for Technological Achievement
Speaking at the ceremony, Marriyum Aurangzeb commended the UET team, calling the invention a “remarkable achievement” and a strong example of academic innovation serving public welfare.
She congratulated UET Vice-Chancellor Dr Syed Shahid Munir and his team for their commitment to environmental protection, assuring that the Punjab Government will fully utilize the device in its anti-smog campaigns.
“The Punjab government prioritizes tackling smog. Innovations like this show how academic institutions can offer real-world solutions to critical environmental challenges,” she said.
Device Features and Functionality
During the event, Dr Syed Shahid Munir briefed attendees on the design and operation of the anti-smog gun.
He explained that the device has a 40-metre range and features a modern dust separation system capable of controlling particulate matter at construction sites, stone-crushing plants, and mining operations.
“This gun is engineered to suppress dust and airborne pollutants in high-risk areas, helping improve urban air quality,” Dr Munir said.
Government Pledges Support for Innovation
Punjab’s Minister for Education, Rana Sikandar Hayat, also attended the event, congratulating the UET team and emphasizing the government’s commitment to strengthening academia-industry partnerships.
“UET has always taken practical steps to solve real-world problems,” he stated. “We will make UET a hub of innovation and ensure financial support for its research-driven projects.”
